this was in a combat zone in Iraq. I was the Officer in Charge of a small unit of 3 attorneys, 4 paralegals, 3 translators and 2 military police. Our head attorney was in the HQ, not in our office, so most interaction was done by phone/email. She would convoy out to our location every other week or so. she would make the most ridiculous requirements and give orders that she'd then refuse to admit she gave.

we had a project that she told me about over the phone, then when we were done speaking I called my people together to explain what our orders were. my boss called back 30 minutes after we hung up to say something more and I just casually said "oh yeah, I was just having a staff meeting to explain what we were gonna do." she went off on me "why were you having a staff meeting, who told you to have a staff meeting?!" just bizarre, I almost laughed it was so unexpected of a rebuke.

another big project we had she made me call one of our military police off leave to help with. in a combat zone you don't get days off but you get one time rest and relaxation either 3 days in country or 2 weeks back home, depending on how long your deployment is. this guy was doing his in country R&R, resting from combat convoying and dealing with Al Qaida prisoners in our detention facility. she made me call him off his combat leave R&R and come back to the office to help with some stupid paperwork backlog that was not even his area of expertise and nothing he could even really help with. just a pure evil power trip thing. she also never let me take my 3 day R&R I was entitled to.

I suffered through 9 months of her as my boss, and in the end, she kicked me on the way out by downgrading the medal I'd been recommended for.
