They’ll attract the top talent out of the portal as quickly as they lose it. In the end, they’ll have great players on the field. They have a big enough fan base that there will still be sold out stadiums.
That isn’t true for most places
Even among the bluest blue bloods, fans will necessarily have less attachment to those players. There is absolutely no point in embracing a student athlete on your team or buying your kid his or her jersey—the player who was to wear that jersey can literally be gone tomorrow.
If, and it’s a huge if, the pros can manage to not turn fans off with their own brand of stupid stuff they do, I see casual fans gravitating more that way in terms of viewership, etc. Fantasy leagues are fun, and you can at least sign players to multi-year deals….
