They didn't know if this season would be 60 or 90 minute episodes
So they couldn't add extra challenges or things like that to pad the length. I think that's why you feel it more this time than last season when they were certain each episode would be 90 minutes.
Hopefully if they have a commitment to 90 minute episodes in the future they add a reward challenge more often.

I prefer it this way. The time at camp is the only interesting stuff. The challenges are often the worst.
