I actually wasn’t a big Departed fan
It was uninteresting where everyone is bad and dies in the end.
The Godfather shows a complex array of ethics and evil interwoven together. Family, loyalty, honesty, and standing firm are juxtaposed with their opposites.
What most film directors don’t seem to get is that storyline, music, and cinematography far outweigh gore and sex.
