As far as Durant on this list goes, I think we are realizing he has been
a bit overrated.

Is he still one of the top 30 best players ever? Yes, but people thought he was going to be top 15 and I think we are now realizing he simply isn't THAT good.

Durant has been on some really stacked teams. The best of which were the 3 Warrior teams he was on that won two titles. Durant played really good on that team including a couple of Finals MVPs. But that team was built around Curry. It was a team that won two titles without Durant and probably should have won 3 as they were the best team in a year they lost 4-3 in the Finals. But switch out a guy like Dwyane Wade who slots into about that 30 range and do they win more or less? I would say about the same.

Durant also was fortunate to play for a young Thunder team which was absolutely stacked. I believe it is the only team in history to have drafted 3 MVPs in 3 consecutive years. Think about for a second, there are many organizations without an MVP and I believe only 2 or 3 teams with 3 different players that were MVPs. They drafted 3 in 3 years. On top of that they had solid talent around those 3 in Ibaka, Green, Sefolosha, Collison and others around them. They made one NBA Finals in the first 5 years Durant was there and then they traded away James Harden for a bag of rocks and Steven Adams. He was there another 4 years without a Finals appearance despite having Westbrook and himself in his prime.

So after he gets healthy he goes to Brooklyn for 2 1/2 more years and doesn't make a conference Final despite having Harden and Irving on his team. And while both Irving and Harden are headcases, I find it interesting that they both have had a lot of success after they left Brooklyn.

So Durant gets traded to the Suns who now have Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant as well as former #1 pick Deandre Ayton. The Suns lose in the second round and Ayton wants out and Chris Paul is no longer a fit (mostly because he is old). So they trade for Beal. The team underperforms for most of the year and loses in the first round.

So looking at his entire career, isn't it odd that almost every team he was on (sans Golden State when they had a legitimate Superteam who could win without him) has underachieved. I mean that first Finals he had I would call an overachievement for a young team. They never made it back. Durant never made it back to the Finals as the best player on his team. These are teams littered with All-Stars and MVPs (well 3 MVPs I guess although he played with Harden multiple times).

At some point doesn't the buck have to stop with Durant?
