Isn't sugar part of what makes Gatorade so effective?
We absorb sodium in our guts through a variety of ways, but one of the main ways is through a sodium glucose cotransporter. The sodium and glucose need each other to be get absorbed. I would love to see a study that accurately compares the amount of electrolytes we absorb from sugar vs zero sugar electrolyte replacement drinks. My bet is that you are really not getting a ton of benefit from non sugar electrolyte replacement drinks.
