When I’m booking for work, I check various dates, and from different airports (I fly a lot of international flights). I
Usually get to book business class so this type of research can save up to a couple of thousand dollars a trip or up to $6-700 for economy. I also will check to see if it’s cheaper to do a “multi-leg” trip, which occasionally it is. I always start with Google flights, but I have a Going membership as well.

Just booked a business trip that was going to happen in January because flights popped up for super cheap on Singapore Airlines. Ended up booking the flights for about $3K cheaper than what the normal cost is.

As has already been said, always book with the actual airlines. Trying to change flights with one of these travel agencies can be brutal and/or impossible. It happened to me about 8 years ago, and I said never again.
