My Dad suffered an injury in camp right before his unit shipped out
He was in the hospital for 8 weeks. He was eventually given a medical discharge. His unit was sent to Korea. All but 7 of them were killed on Pork Chop Hill.
He lived with that injury for the rest of his life, but I can't imagine the horror he was saved from due to that injury.
