Although I do think that in the playoffs teams are able to make adjustments and scheme against him to lessen his impact. So for that reason, I would not fault someone for preferring to not pay him a max contract. He significantly raises the floor for a team, but he doesn’t raise the ceiling. Ideally you’d want your max players to be guys you can give the ball to in the final moments of the game and have them make a play. He is the last guy you’d want with the ball in the final moments of a game.
I do think the Wolves are a perfect situation for him though, because he can be the #3 guy who anchors the defense and helps open up the offensive stars in the pick n roll. They knocked off the defending champs, and if Ant had played just a bit better the last two games, they’d have won both and be well on their way to the Finals.
