We connected through Hong Kong on the way and Singapore on the way home which was perfect. We did an overnight on the way and did a Hong Kong city tour and hit the night markets. Singapore is a great city with lots to see. On the way home we did the night zoo which was also very cool.
In Bali we stayed at a resort near Tanah lot temple that has a great pool and slides that our kids loved. Tanah lot temple is worth a visit. Most hotels are very nice and affordable in Bali. To get to the first hotel we went through lots rice fields which was neat.
The tour our kids loved the most was what they called whitewater rafting. More like floating a little stream in inflatable rafts. A young kid went in each raft to pull you through the shallow parts. The cool thing was floating through a stone canyon where they teach the skill of stone carving. The canyon was a giant wall of stone carvings and the artisans were up on scaffolding working while we floated by. A Balinese mount Rushmore. It ended in a jungle area with a nice lunch.
Lots of unique art and carvings everywhere. It was also neat to see the Hindu religious stuff. We saw funeral and wedding processions go through town. Very colorful attire. You’d also see little offerings at the doors of homes and business. Things like flowered fruit and candles and incense. They were everywhere.
We also stayed a few days in the beach area which is like Huntington Beach in California. Lots of surf shops and sandy beaches. We had dinner one night at a seafood place right on the beach. The waves actually washed up under our table a few times. Food was also very cheap.
We were with a small group of other families so we didn’t drive. Roads seemed very crowded in town but the country was stunning with the terraced rice fields.
I can’t wait to go back. You’ll have a blast.
