If you want to understand and/or influence other people, perceiving the world and others in this light will not help get you there.

Just 'cause some lady says that she wants to stand out, does NOT mean that she's lacking in self esteem or somehow on the wrong emotional, spiritual, or mental health path. It's a pretty normal feeling to have, no need to judge or make wild assumptions about why she feels that way. Just chill.
