Generations, so they pass laws and agree to not have certain things to slow the eventuality that urbanization will come to them.
There is a tradeoff made with our freedoms between preserving the past and moving forward in progress. In America, we seem to swing more on the sde of freedom to do what we want than Europeans do. But sometimes that works to our detriment, with corporations allowed to come in and buy everything up and develop whatever they want wherever they want. There is very little community control over others in America compared to what I've seen in my limited time in Europe. That can be good, but it can also be a bad thing, to put our freedoms and dreams in the hands of someone else.
Our system works well, until it doesn't. Their system works well, until it doesn't.
