paddies, villages, volcanoes, etc. are what make Bali so cool and unique. The beaches are nice, but not any better than many other beaches around the world. I usually spend 1-2 nights at the beach, and the rest in the interior.

Two cool, cheap short trips you can make from Bali: Yogyakarta on Java, and Lombok (the next island over). Both are awesome, but especially Yogyakarta if you like archaeology. Borobudur (the world’s largest Buddhist temple) and the Prambanan Hindu temple/ruin (a kind of mini Angkor Wat) are nearby.

I would spend more time in Bali (or on Java or Lombok) and less in KL if it were up to me.
