you up a little bit.
When I was an accounting/isys student at BYU, I was interviewing for an internship. My parents had moved to Illinois, so I was looking to work in Chicago and just stay with them for a few months. My brother was coming home from his mission about a week after most of my interviews so I decided to stay and be there when he returned.
One day, I am out shooting baskets and my little sister comes running outside saying I have a phone call. (This was about 1997 so I didn't have a cell phone.) She then tells me to hurry because it is a guy that sounds really official and she had been running through the house looking for me so he had already been waiting quite a while. So, I go running in the house so fast I lose my breath and I am breathing really hard into the phone. It was the head regional partner for one of the big firms where I had been interviewing. I start to apologize for making him wait and for the fact I am out of breath and say I had been playing basketball.
He asks if I was winning. My response was "Oh, nobody else is here so I am just playing with myself." A little bit of a pause as I realize what I had just said. So I try to fix it by saying "I always win when I play with myself." Now a really awkward pause as I decide whether to explain that is not what I meant or not. Decided I couldn't help the situation at all, so just dropped it.
A few weeks later when I got back to Provo, I got a call from the HR lady to offer the internship. She said, "I don't know what you said to Bill, but you sure did make an impression on him."
