I have a similar belt buckle. It is more in the shape of a football, pointed at the ends. It has a black background, says "1984 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" across the top, and Brigham Young University across the bottom The BYU in the middle is turquoise, and there is a cougar on top of the BYU. I had a company that made belt buckles make some up, just to see what they looked like. I didn't order any, and I don't remember if I have the only one, or if I had a few made up and gave them to close friends/relatives/clients. It was a long time ago, as our Ute friends like to point out, so I don't remember all the details, but I know I still wear it at football season, and get comments on it. I wouldn't sell it on E-Bay for twenty bucks, so I think you got a good deal!
