Let's take BYU's TV deal with ESPN, what if we continued on our current pace of under-performing on the field and churned out games like the Utah State game week after week. Would ESPN want to renew the contract? Maybe, maybe not. But would we get as many games on prime ESPN channels as we've gotten recently if we sucked? Nope. We'd likely get the minimum deal in the contract. That would hurt the athletic budget considerably and hurt the viability of the program by losing so much media exposure.
If ESPN said our brand of football just wasn't moving the needle anymore that would be a good enough reason to fire a coach like Bronco.
