He'd be very hard to replace, and here's why:
BYU was successful in the 80s because an innovative offensive game that didn't rely on superior athletes. The game has changed and it's not clear BYU can ever have a dominant offense again. It can have a good offense, but not a dominant one. But competitive teams need to be really good on one side of the ball and BYU under Bronco has proven to be a very strong defensive football program which allows it to compete with just about anyone. Where Bronco has failed is to hire a competent OC that just gives us a "good" offense. One that doesn't turn the ball over, scores 3-4 touchdowns, doesn't rack up penalties, wins the field position games, etc. We don't need to swing for the fences with our offense, because we have an elite defensive coach.
