In 08' there was definitely luck involved. In 04' not so much. Utah's narrowest margin of victory in 04' was 14 points. Many teams also scored in garbage time at the end of games, that year, to pull closer than the games actually were.
In 06' BYU had some close losses and some close wins. It could go either way with any of those games. After losing 2 of your first 3 games, however, it is clear you aren't going to a BCS bowl game. It's not like you were sitting on the edge of your seat the entire season to see if you got the BCS invite. 07' was not as close as 06' in your losses.
So, to say you nearly went to the BCS twice, is basically a joke right? Utah HAS gone twice, gone undefeated twice in the past decade - not one in past century.
Utah has gone twice ( was the 1st non-AQ to go and the first non-AQ to go twice)
TCU has gone twice
Boise has gone twice
Hawaii has gone once
BYU nonece. Bronco doesn't have a team anywhere close to the 06' team, coming back for 2012. And BYU will be playing a tougher schedule. Tanner Mangum won't actually play for BYU for at least 3 seasons and most of the recruits don't seem extremely promising, in general, either.
