I guess I don't make full nerd status...
But there was an awful lof of Tolkien's work to pull from. The trick for Jackson was trying to weave it into a coherent storyline. Obviously, he hasn't satisfied the true nerds who think he's too heavy on effects and attempts at humor etc, which mainstream audiences demand, and he hasn't satisfied the people who read The Hobbit once or twice who wonder what the crap is going on.
Really and almost impossible task.
