He shared some slides at the luncheon, and after seeing those, it's difficult to call him average. He's one of 10 coaches to go to a bowl game every year for the last 8 years, and he's won 6 of those games. He's in the top 10 for active coaches in his winning percentage. I don't like what's happened the last two years, and from all the changes this year I'm guessing he doesn't either.
He's not perfect, but, in my opinion, he's a really good coach. We can argue that he's had easy schedules, but so do plenty of other schools and they don't have the records we do or the ESPN deal that we do. The guy wins games, and with the exception of the last two years he has put together top 25 programs. Maybe I need to put the kool-aid down, but I think it's crazy to call him average to below average.
