Practically, a true addiction is easier to see the harmful effects
but when he can go into his room and do that every night, he probably cannot see the harmful spiritual effects. That is why calling it an addiction is a disservice. If you instead focus on the damning spiritual nature of the practice, it is much easier to rectify than sending him through an addiction recovery program (even the church's program).
