If the crank moves, it can't be seized. How is that possible?

It was sure cranking.

This article tells me that a seized engine, you would hear nothing but a clunk. Obviously I'm not a real car guy, but this makes sense.

The cranking you hear could just be the the starter motor.

If it is trying to turn over (crank) then the engine is not seized

Does it have a cap and rotor, or ist it fuel injected? You could have bad rotor.
