Part of the issue was product too....BYU merchandise has always followed....

rather than kept up with or led the market. There is more Royal Blue merchandise available now than there was back in the 80's. Don't get me wrong, I like the new blue, but BYU hasn't done much to promote themselves through merchandising until very recently.
