Sad situation...
I typically really don't care how a former BYU player does... simply put, if they transfer I really don't care about what they do. But Jake Heaps was a little different... I felt he got screwed by having surrounded by coaches that knew about as much as he did. He was a victim of very poor coaching and very bad decisions made by Bronco. Mixed with that, he because the spotlight of the team, and might have been swimming his in own press a little... he was getting far too much attention for someone that really hadn't done much of anything up to that point.

Unfortunately for him, he did need to be benched... that was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. He was literally getting worse every single game, he was losing confidence in himself, others were losing confidence in him... it was a situation that needed a reset button hit and fast.

I really felt he shouldn't have left... he should have stayed and red shirted and got his feet back on the ground, head back on straight... life in order. It would have been tough... but I think he could have pulled it off. Of all the places to choose to transfer to... why on earth he picked Kansas is beyond me. It clearly hasn't worked like he thought it would.

I really did hope it would work for him, but the situation there just wasn't good. Nothing really that good has came out of Kansas or Weis as a head coach. It's unfortunate that it didn't work out for him... due to the Heaps situation, I decided at that moment that I wouldn't bag on the players as much or at all anymore and simply put, the coaches have to shoulder a lot more blame than any player on the field.

No way Heaps can come back to BYU... his college career would be done.
