to ever grace D1 football fields. And against Utah, and I'll admit he had a good game RELATIVE to the expectations we've come to accept against Utah; but even against Utah that year, what did we get from a Heaps led offense? A single TD and a few field goals.
It's always sadly ironic to me how similar the production was from both Heaps and Nelson. For all of Heaps' ability to throw the deep ball, Nelson actually completed significantly more deep throws and had a higher YPA. Both had similar career completion percentages (both poor). Heaps was less prone to dumb unforced mistakes, but Nelson was more effective in the red zone, which in the end helped him put more points on the board than Heaps.
Heaps at least had some swagger in 2010 that went completely missing in 2011 and hasn't been found since.
