She was my wife's visiting teacher for 3 years, and her and my wife became really good friends. Her little sister is Jake Heap's wife. Their family is originally from the Seattle Area. I doubt Jake Heap's wife wants to return to BYU because of what happened at the Utah State game when Heaps was benched for Riley Nelson. From one sister to another, the story was related thus to us:
Jake Heap's wife was sitting in the stand watching the game when he was pulled for Nelson. He wasn't having a good game, it looked like BYU was going to lose, and Riley Nelson arguably had his best game ever. Remember when he came in and won the game? We were all Riley Nelson fans that night. Yet somehow, he has been relegated to Jake Heaps status these days. Anyway, back to the story. Upon her husband being benched, some rowdy, obnoxious BYU fans (Yes, there are a few out there, sadly) sitting in front of her turned around and taunted and jeered her the rest of the game, telling her that her husband sucked, that Riley came in to save the day, and they were so glad that Heaps got benched, etc. I thought the story a bit exaggerated, but later confirmed it was true. She left the game in tears and vowed to never attend another game in person. It wasn't quite drunk fans pouring beer on Max Hall's family, but it was the BYU equivalent -- and from her fellow fans.
I had always been a proud BYU fan up until that moment-that was a low point. As anyone here that is married knows, a spouse plays a huge role in the decision making process of any large, important decision. I seriously doubt that Jake Heaps wife wants to return to Provo, since she was one of the large supporters of him leaving. She doesn't have significant family in the area, contrary to the comments above. Both Heaps and his wife are from the Seattle area, as are their families. I'll leave it at that.
