Obviously the point is that this year's draft is far better than 2012.
Also, you're free to like or dislike what the Jazz are doing, but you really seem to think that every Jazz fan in favor of tanking is 100% certain that this year's draft will net us a superstar. That's obviously not true, there's always busts and teams slide in the draft. There's a very high chance that we'll lose a lot next year as well. But the NBA is a league of superstars, if you don't have one you will never win anything of consequence. And for a small market team like the Jazz, looking for the superstar in the draft, however unlikely that may be, represents the best bet to raise a banner. The odds were astronomically unlikely with Stockton and Malone, we're simply not going to draft two middle-round HOFers again.

Clearly, tanking is the only real option for those fans who want even the slightest chance of winning a ring. Traditional tactics won't work. On the contrary, expecting the Jazz to be truly competitive by adhering to their same old methods is the naive way of thinking. Even more naive is proclaiming the teams of the last four years more "successful" than this year, simply because they put more butts in the seats. Owning a .500 record is not a benchmark for success, and neither is attendance.

Finally, I'd like to point out that if a team draft's a superstar, that superstar is almost assured to stay in town for at least 9 years (rookie contract + max offer = 9 years, only way for a player to avoid this would be to play a year on the qualifying offer to become a UFA, losing millions in the process). So no, the only risk is in drafting and developing a superstar. If drafting and developing players represents too much of a risk for the Jazz, they had better get out of the NBA, because every team needs to be able to do both those things just to remain competent.
