i don't really care but I don't get why this should be the case

i've seen it happen all sorts of ways. some healthy, some unhealthy, some akward, some great. whatever works for those invovled.

One exception that I really think can be great (although my wife did this once and never would want to again) is a mother who plans to place the child inviting the adoptive parents (usually the mother)
