And by Vegas' measure.
And by the polls' measure.
Look at the stats for the 2013 game. BYU gained more yards, had more first downs, had fewer penalties, and more 3rd down conversions. 1 turnover was the only category Utah won in. Same exact story in 2012. 2011 was a drubbing but the stats don't reflect the score differential (except turnovers again). 2010, the stats were close in most categories, but Utah was on the right side when the clock ran out.
So the only year that I can say Utah showed dominance was 2011. The other years were within a score, so it could have gone either way.
But BYU finished in top 25 as many times since Bronco took over as Utah has in its history.
And NFL talent doesn't make a better team. Look at Notre Dame over the last decade. They land incredible recruits every year and struggled to do anything good until recently. BYU and Utah recruiting are almost equal. I'll admit BYU needs to do more to focus on prepping guys for the NFL. But that's only one measure.
That's my opinion, obviously. You could probably make a strong case for Utah using other factors. It's all about what you look at and prioritize. I look mainly at the final ranking to determine success of my team, because in theory it's supposed to include all the factors.
