Well articulated, thanks for the perspective.
I think Bronco is a great guy and a very good coach, so I don't make any personal attacks on him. When I give my critique of him, it's intended just to express my thoughts about the situation, and focuses on his role in the football program as the head coach. I think the reason it bothers me so much when people get offended by it is because not all critiques are created equal - while I try to look at it and express my opinions from my perspective (which is, of course uninformed) I feel like I get treated the same way as if I were saying that BYU sucks, Bronco sucks and needs to be fired and is just an awful person, etc.

I'm just discussing the situation as I see it. I agree that the negativity makes the sports less fun, particularly when we Cougar fans are ripping each other apart worse than a Utah fan ever would. I think we take critiques of Bronco a little more personally than we should, and although I'm also taking it too personally here, I feel like I've developed that defensively just from having my intelligence (and sometimes, seemingly, my worth as a BYU fan and as a person) questioned because of it. That starts to rub the wrong way after a little while.

In a nutshell, yes, Bronco is a good coach. But he isn't perfect and we need to acknowledge that. Those of us who have critique to express could do a better job of articulating it better so that it's not so negative. Those defending Bronco, I think, need to tone down on the name calling and fandom-questioning. We can have civil discussions about this, but lately it's become a taboo topic on CB and seems to always lead to a flame war the way the most politically charged topics do on other message boards.
