My overall point is that the U forces out tons of students & BYU forces out
almost no one. In the end you get a similar result. Do you think the top 30% of Utah MEs (i.e. the ones that are not forced out) are weaker than BYU's average ME?

Of course every major is different. BYU law school and MBA school are ranked higher. Utah has higher ranked graduate programs in a whole bunch of areas, it has a medical school and it has a well earned reputation as a research university and it is great for business startups. BYU is THE destination school for out of state mormons, it has a much stronger group of freshmen and it is intentionally weak in most graduate programs (the goal is to get kids married and send them to a good graduate school). BYU is one of the few major universities in the entire country that does not want to be a research institution.

My overall point is that the primary mission and methods of each school are surprisingly different. I have a daughter that wants to go to BYU and I will be pleased to have her go there. My 1st son didn't consider BYU. My second son got a full tuition scholarship at BYU and turned it down because Utah is paying all his expenses and giving him cash (and his major, pre-med physics, is much stronger at the U).

Do you care to refute any specific point in this post or my previous post?
