Defensive End is a much easier position to pick up than ILB.
A DE just goes after the QB. ILB requires a ton of instinct to read coverages, discern a run play from a pass play, or know when a screen is coming. Defending the spread only makes things more complicated. Such instinct only comes through repetition.
