it's doubtful. This was the P12 officiating crew that ripped off Wisconsin vs
ASU earlier in the season and got reprimanded by the P12 for their misconduct. Go back and watch the game and you see a pattern of holding, pushing, early contact, etc that they allowed the utah DB's to get away with. The first pass to Hoffman where McGill targets him and nails him from behind before the ball arrived without even making a try for the ball showed what the utah gameplan was for covering the BYU WR's and when the refs wouldn't throw the flag on that early hit by McGill it indicated just how much latitude they were willing to give.

There were blown calls that went both ways but this pattern of turning a blind eye on blatant PI's was a difference maker in the game. One of the keys for Utah winning was the difficulty Taysom had finding open receivers and then completing passes to them. Several early PI calls would've forced the ute DBs to lay off and play honest defense and this would've created opportunities for Taysom to find open recievers. With the passing game being more successful the utes would have to pull back and not be able to crowd the box as much. This would open running lanes for Taysom as well and he's even more dangerous when he has room to run (just ask Texas).

The fact that the P12 employs such shoddy officiating and basically lets them go unfettered (they got a slap on the wrist for their misconduct in the Wisconsin game and it was only after it drew national attention on ESPN and much scorn and bad publicity) is the real advantage that Utah has in being in the P12. We've seen them rip off other teams on a regular basis (remember the Oklahoma game?) and it's clear that this is normal business for the conference (we already have seen this with Basketball and the efforts by P12 head of officiating Ed Rush to influence officials in his employ to alter the outcome of games).

This is the new paradigm that BYU fans must prepare themselves for if we're going to continue to schedule a ton of games with the P12. We're going to get hosed in nearly every situation.
