Sure, the Billy's and the Joe's are more important than the X's and O's, but if Billy can't tell you which X he is on the board, he's pretty much worthless.
With Ziggy, where was he going to start? OLB over KVN, possibly the best defensive player ever at BYU. At DE ahead of a 3 year starter that spent some time in NFL camps as well? NT over another NFL player? You couldn't play him over those players, but he was playing a lot of downs even without starting. And when he came in, he changed the pace of the game. And when he was forced into a starting role, he was much more prepared for it by doing the things he had been doing before.
