I do think there has been a paradigm shift......
It is directly related to the last couple of seasons and stepping up in competition. Specifically it was the ND, Wisky and UW games last year that persuaded him to look at things differently. He has seen that BYU is not "athletic" or "physical" enough. Look at what is happening on the O line and speed at the WR positions. Physical nasty O lineman and WR with quicks and playmaking ability. Proof that he IS doing something. I have posted about this ad nauseam.

I think he has always looked for the best recruits he could find and has always played the best players available, but the one thing he has done is shift the paradigm in recruiting to one where he is casting a wider net. He is looking under more rocks and reaching out to kids of similar faiths and backgrounds.

He has also turned back to the JC ranks as I think he realizes that he is going to need them to supplement the continuity he is trying to build.

Nothing wrong with either of these shifts. Personally I think they were both necessary. Without them our record against ranked opponents during his tenure (1-11) and P5 opponents (7-14) is going to stay stuck at that winning percentage. That won't be good enough moving forward. The program needs more talent. He knows it and so does the rest of the coaching staff. Martzen is a contributor to this for sure and I hope to see his participation in the process continue to bring positive results.

Our recruiting is getting better and so is our talent. It is going to take time and baby steps. To help this along the team needs to win. Go out and beat UConn and Texas to start this season and follow those wins up with Houston, BSU and UCF. Win the games that a good P5 team should win. Build on that success for next year and the momentum could be very, very good for this program!
