There are no auto bids to the playoffs

just to the big bowls. The selection committee can select whoever they want for the four playoff spots. So an undefeated BYU has a very good chance of getting in. But it is true, that a 5th ranked BYU may not get one of the other big bowl games because a #19 CSU would get the auto bid to those games.
