Overall I agree with you.
However, I'm over 40 and find myself helping with a quick move tomorrow. A single sister who doesn't have much to move (just split from her abusive husband, coming from a shelter).

Most of the recent moving I don't even hear about anymore since I don't go to the EQ. But there have been some families that I really like who I've known were moving and knew they needed help, so I showed up without being asked.

I got so that when I got to a move (unless it was someone I really liked) I would tell people I could give them an hour or two. If they weren't packed, I didn't have a problem helping them pack boxes for an hour or two. But that left more for them to actually move later on by themselves.

We lived in a ward 10-11 years ago in which we had someone moving once a month it seemed like. After being there, when it was our turn to move, we had maybe 3 ward members show up. All of them told me that they'd seen me at enough other moves, the figured it was only fair for us to get some help too.

You know I had boxes packed, furniture wrapped, a pair of hand trucks, and the moving truck all ready to go when the help arrived. 45 minutes later it was over. (I must admit, the speed was helped some when it started to rain a little.)
