We send out this letter to all families requesting help with moving
Dear XXXXXX Ward Member,

If you are moving out of our ward, we wish you the best of luck and will miss you! For those of you moving in, we are excited to welcome you to the area and to the ward! As you have requested assistance with moving in or out, this letter will help ensure a successful move with assistance from other volunteer ward members. As a ward, we have been able to help many people move and these are the best practices that we have found to be successful.

Overview
- Please remember that we are volunteers with daytime jobs and other commitments. We promise to do our best in moving items, but there is always the possibility of items getting scratched or walls getting marked. Again, we will do our best to be careful, but we are not an insured moving company. We are volunteers.
- Please have all items boxed up and ready to be moved. To the best of your ability, please also have furniture items ready to be moved (beds broken down, tables disassembled, etc.). We are not able to assist with boxing items up. We are best at just moving items to the truck and packing them in place.
- You are encouraged to invite your family, friends, and/or co-workers to help with the move.
- Please be ready for us to start at the designated time. This includes having the items boxed, the truck at the location and ready to be loaded. Ideally, we recommend having the truck picked up and at your residence an hour before the scheduled move time, just in case delays are.
- Ideally, we aim to have moves go about 1-2 hours. This helps make sure we do not ask for our ward volunteers to be away from their families or other responsibilities for too long. If you have a very large amount of boxes/furniture, live on a higher floor, or anything else out of the ordinary, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.
- If possible, providing water/drinks is important. We live in Florida, and the heat can take a toll! Snacks are not required, but are rarely turned down!
- If you have very heavy items (i.e. piano, bedroom furniture, dressers) that cannot be reasonably moved/carried by 2-3 grown men (especially when stairs are involved), we kindly request that you acquire professional movers for those items. We do not want to be responsible for damaging those items and we do not want anyone injured when trying to move those items. Thank you for your understanding.
- Please see the following website for recommended truck sizes: http://www.uhaul.com/Trucks/ It is MUCH better to get a truck that is too big and have extra room, than to get one that is too small. We have seen it before and it’s not fun. Don’t underestimate how much room your items will take up.

Tips for Moving
- Don’t forget to label your boxes to make unpacking easier. Mark the contents of each box and the room where each box should go. Mark boxes containing fragile items to prevent damage or breakage. It doesn’t hurt to number your boxes to keep track!
- Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials.
- Remember to defrost your refrigerator at least a day before moving and wipe up any liquid.
- Take a photo of how your electronics are connected so you can remember how and where all the wires go.

Please remember that we are volunteers with daytime jobs and other commitments. We promise to do our best in moving items, but there is always the possibility of items getting scratched or walls getting marked. Again, we will do our best to be careful, but we are not an insured moving company. We are volunteers.

If you have any questions regarding a move, please let us know. We thank you for understanding and we will do our best to make this process smooth and successful for everyone. Please reach out to the following contacts for any other questions.
