If you are speaking from a liberal University President's perspective then
Maybe that makes sense. But to act like that would ever mean anything to the Church is just ignorant. It means nothing to them. It is not marriage. And it is in direct conflict with its sacred tenants and teachings. So of course they wouldn't recognize it. If they marry the opposite sex they can have as much sex as they want. Everyone is treated the same.
