Is anyone privy to knowing if BYU football program uses any "Moneyball"-type analytics to track any of these kinds of data?
I could imagine anything as simple as a spreadsheet to track, for example:
When we are in a certain offensive formation and run a certain play when the defense is in a certain formation...what is the result of the play?
Or maybe they have much more sophisticated software...I dunno.
I'm assuming something like this could overcome certain human tendencies that coaches have to rely on certain plays.
Or maybe our offense is so based on the quarterback reading what the defense gives them at that particular moment, that analytics is not really applicable to our offensive philosophy.
