And the reason why Texas fell through was because they were worried
about their place after creating the most difficult conference. The SEC thought A&M was going to be second fiddle in their conference, and while they are much better than people thought, they still haven't upset the top hierarchy in that conference.

It can't all be about money because the biggest name teams in the country would get together and form a superconference and not share any of their TV revenue with the dogs out there. The great teams know they need some mediocrity around them to maintain their dominance at the top. Why do you think Notre Dame went to the ACC for their scheduling agreement? The ACC was much easier to dominate than the teams in the Big 10.
