Nobody remembers 1951, but 1984 is permanently etched in BYU fans' psyche.
Just ask fans on the street, I bet 80% don't know we ever won't he NIT nor that it was the big tourney at the time.

So the comment about 1984 raising expectations for BYU is definitely valid. Ever since 1984 BYU was always special. We had a unique offense, a national championship, and an identity. That has raised expectations for fans. BYU basketball doesn't have the same thing. To be honest, I think it's why so many of us enjoy basketball more. We can just enjoy the team without unrealistic expectations crashing down every year.
