Beach easily beats anything on the Pacific side of Mexico. I like the beach better than in Playa del Carmen, which is getting almost as touristy. Playa is a better value -- with all-inclusive options — but not as convenient as Cancun, either.

You have to be a little careful with spring breakers in Cancun, but it's much tamer than it used to be.
