Trash is trash, it is not diverse
to be clear, my definition of trash has nothing to do with income and everything to do with behavior.

I don't care if people drink, but I care if people get drunk, I especially care when they do it in public, and allow their "liquid courage" to be proudly displayed, and/or their self-percieved humor and boisterous voice to ruin the experience of those that surround them. Enough is enough. I grew up in a family that has tailgated and have grown up around alcohol my entire life. I was in a fraternity and saw everything from socially responsible drinking to full-blown binge drinking to the point of hospitalization and everything in between. I attended law school out of state at a Jesuit School and went out with people that knew how to have fun, but also knew when to say when.

What I saw growing up, in the fraternity and during law school was that the there were lines that were not to be crossed and an enforcement that actually occurred when people had gone too far. What I am seeing at the stadium is an almost systemic increase in the alcohol consumption leading to an increase in belligerence and TERRIBLE behavior. This TRASH element is ruining the experience of those that just want to watch a game and have fun with fellow Utes. Why should I be nervous to take my 5 and 8 year old girls to games?

Here is where I am with this: Drinking anywhere on campus is illegal (including the tailgate lot). You will start to see an even greater effort by the school administration to immediately eject fans for lewd behavior. You will see increased security. You will begin to see an effort to try to get the tailgating crowd to get itself back in check and if that doesn't work, you will begin to see drastic changes including but not limited to strict enforcement of existing laws.

Some will say that this will deter some from coming to games. My response is if people are only coming to games to engage in such behavior then the mission will be accomplished. Time to pare down those that have chosen to become Utah fans as a part of their propensity for drunken debauchery. There is a place for those people: Rehab.
