Wrong - our recruiting base is great and only getting bigger!
This excuse can not go on much longer. It may have had some merit 30 years ago when the church was much smaller. There are 6.4 million Mormons in the US and 15 million in the world. Our US numbers are roughly equivalent to the the population of states like Washington, Arizona, Tennessee, and Indiana. That is bigger than Louisiana, Alabama, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and a lot of other successful football states. Yes everyone isn't active and not everyone wants to play football - just like the general populations in those states where not everyone wants to go to college and not everyone wants to play football. The point is there is enough LDS talent to be a top 25 football program every year. But they won't come unless we are winning. Get a winning coach that can put together a few great years and the talent will come.

When I was born there were 3.5 million Mormons today it is 15 million. In another 30+ years our recruiting base might be comparable to Florida, but we have to win to make that useful.
