People need to stop comparing Bronco to Lavell. Seriously. when Lavell took over as HC, BYU was a no-name bottom tier program with a single conference championship in the previous 20+ year. In his first 10 years he managed to produce 8 conference championships, and put BYU on the map as QBU- names like Gifford Nielson, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, and Steve Young IN HIS FIRST 10 years! Lavell was a legend.
The program was on an entirely different level when Bronco took over, tradition, better facilities, and a National Brand thanks to Lavell, with all that came higher expectations,. And while I don't think he has failed by any measure as a HC, it is clear that Bronco has taken the program as far as he can. Time to move on.
