Because the rules are different during the last minute of game time.
Not officially. The refs usually swallow their whistles a lot more during the last minute of play. Also, the refs last night were determined to blow every call that could have gone BYU's way during that last minute.

From the foul on Fischer that wasn't called, to the quick call for traveling against Fischer, to the no call on SDSU's travel, to the no call on Haws getting absolutely mugged, to the no call on goal tending.

Every single one of those was clear. Sometimes the ref was standing less than 5 feet from the play and still blew it. If any one of those calls went the other game, we win in 1OT. I'm not one to usually say that the refs cost BYU the game, but they did last night.
