Coaching at BYU is a tough job
We do have a recruiting disadvantage. If we could have our choice of every LDS recruit it would be better but we even have a tough time convincing many of the top LDS recruits to come to BYU. They have a lot of attractive offers and options. It is very difficult to convince good non-LDS players to come to BYU even though the ones who do usually have a good experience and are successful.

Bronco has done a good job in most areas, no doubt about that. Some decisions have not gone well, he acknowledges that. Fans don't always agree with everything he does but fans don't know what's behind a lot of the decisions and actions. There is a lot involved in running a football program and managing a large staff and 105 players. Coaches have a lot on their plate and a lot of pressure.

Now about pay, BYU coaches are paid by BYU and that is supplemented by the Coaches Circle endowment. BYU has stated that coaches are paid competitively. This doesn't mean they pay the highest and it doesn't mean they pay among the lowest. From what I've seen, BYU salaries for the head coaches and assistants is probably not in the top 50 programs but it's not far below that. It is at least pretty close to what Utah pays and more than Utah State pays. I think that would be considered "Competitive." BYU is paying the assistants enough that they are not going to leave for significantly more money.
