How does BYU negotiate itself into a better position?
Are you talking about the bowl game?
It's true that Utah likely won't amount to much, but even at 8-4, they have attained one of Bronco's goals of being ranked...but the mediocre bowl is proof that they are a second class citizen in their own conference.
