When the Y won the NIT in the 60's they didn't choose that over the NCAA. Back then only 32 teams made it into the tourney and the Y wasn't one of them. They were invited to the NIT they didn't choose that over playing in the NCAA. And no the NIT in the 60's wasn't as prestigious as the NCAA.
